Breed Origin

Numerous experts believe that the Shih Tzu, the original breed, is a cross between the Lhasa Apso from Tibet and a small Chinese dog, such as the Pekingese. This breed was highly valued by Chinese royalty, particularly during the Tang dynasty (618 to 907), where it was a prominent presence in royal courts. The Shih Tzu became popular among the general public during the Ming dynasty, but it nearly faced extinction during the Chinese Revolution, with only seven dogs of each gender surviving. The modern Shih Tzu lineage can be traced back to these few remaining dogs. In the early 20th century, Shih Tzus made their way to countries like Norway, England, and the United States, and a breed standard was established in 1938. After World War II, many veterans returned to the U.S. with their cherished Shih Tzus, which led to the breed being recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1969. The French Bulldog, a charming breed that originated in England (originally referred to as the toy Bulldog), was initially bred by lace makers as companions. As their industry declined, they moved to France, taking their small dogs with them. In France, this toy breed was further refined through crossbreeding with Terriers and Pugs, ultimately earning the name French Bulldog. Today, this adored breed enjoys a place in the limelight, living alongside celebrities such as Lady Gaga and Martha Stewart.

Breed Appearance

The delightful French Bull Tzu is a small dog breed, usually weighing between 15 and 25 pounds. This charming canine comes in various colors, often displaying a mix of red, white, black, and brown. Its facial characteristics are reminiscent of its French Bulldog lineage, while the coat is typically medium to long, featuring a silky and fine texture. The body shape is a combination of both parent breeds, appearing either somewhat stocky like the French Bulldog or more elongated like the Shih Tzu. The tail is long and stands upright, and the dark eyes, often framed by fur, sparkle with a playful energy. The muzzle is usually short or flat.

Care Routine

Although the French Bull Tzu has a medium to long coat, it requires minimal upkeep. Brushing his fur three times a week is enough to maintain its shine and prevent tangles. A pin brush works well for this purpose, and if the hair around his eyes starts to hinder his sight, a trim may be needed. For dogs with thicker coats, using clippers could be necessary. Furthermore, it's crucial to trim his nails every few weeks to avoid curling or breaking, and daily dental hygiene is vital, as small breeds are prone to dental problems.
