Its origins can be traced back to a breeder named Francis Hubert, who refined the breed in southern France during the 8th century. Known as the Saint Hubert Hounds, these dogs were skilled hunters and played a vital role in tracking poachers who encroached on private lands. Through selective breeding with other hound varieties, the Talbot Hound emerged. Both of these breeds became known as 'Blooded Hounds,' which is where the term Bloodhound originates. In 1066, William the Conqueror brought Bloodhounds to England, where they were favored by the English nobility for fox hunting. The subsequent crossbreeding with Greyhounds produced a more powerful running hound. This practice of crossbreeding continued over the years, leading to the evolution of various hound types. The Majestic Tree Hound signifies a revival of these historical roots, having been carefully bred to restore the original strains of hounds that early American settlers cherished. Acknowledging the distinctiveness of this new breed, breeders decided to establish it as a separate entity, resulting in the formation of the National Majestic Tree Hound Association in 1980, led by Lee Newhart Jr. That same year, the first Majestic Tree Hound was registered with the National Kennel Club.
