Breed Origin

The Cairn Terrier, celebrated for its fearless demeanor, was originally bred in Scotland to hunt small game among rocky terrains, which is how it acquired its name. This small breed has been a beloved part of Scottish culture for centuries, gaining significant popularity in 1938 when it appeared in the iconic film The Wizard of Oz, where Dorothy's energetic Cairn Terrier, Toto, captured hearts. The breed also became well-known through the classic sitcom I Love Lucy, featuring Little Ricky's Cairn Terrier, Fred. That same year, the American Kennel Club officially recognized the breed, categorizing it within the Terrier Group. Conversely, the Chihuahua, endearingly nicknamed the "Taco Dog," has a rich history that dates back thousands of years to Central America and Mexico. This tiny breed is believed to have been domesticated by the Toltec civilization, with the Aztecs also utilizing them for food and trade. Chihuahuas served various roles, such as warming beds and providing comfort, as they were thought to absorb their owners' pain. In some traditions, these small dogs were cremated alongside their deceased owners in a funeral rite intended to cleanse the human's sins for the afterlife. The American Kennel Club recognized the Chihuahua as part of the Toy Group in 1904.

Care Routine

His small toenails usually wear down naturally through regular walks and play, though some owners might opt to trim them monthly to keep them at a comfortable length. His erect ears can gather debris, but a simple weekly wipe with a warm cloth is usually sufficient to clean them. Generally, he only needs a bath every month or so to keep any doggy odor at bay.
