However, modern Mastiffs are celebrated for their gentle nature. Conversely, the Dogue de Bordeaux, another type of Mastiff, comes from France. This breed was prized for its adaptability, bravery, and intelligence, serving various roles such as hunting boars and jaguars, protecting people and property, and herding livestock. The Dogue de Bordeaux gained widespread recognition as the charming giant in the movie "Turner and Hooch," featuring Tom Hanks. In 2008, it received official recognition as a purebred by the American Kennel Club.
