The English Toy Spaniel, celebrated for its delightful looks and gentle disposition, boasts a storied past. Its affectionate and mild-mannered nature won the hearts of British royalty, earning it the affectionate moniker "Charlies," in honor of King Charles I and his son, King Charles II, both of whom were enamored with the breed. Notable figures such as Mary, Queen of Scots, and Grand Duchess Anastasia Nikolaevna also held this breed in high regard. After the reign of these monarchs, the breed underwent further refinement through crossbreeding with the Pug and the Japanese Chin, which contributed to the Eng-A-Poo's distinctive flat nose. Often called the comforter spaniel, this breed has transformed into a cherished lap dog. Conversely, the Poodle is officially recognized as a breed that hails from France, although its curly-coated ancestors are thought to have originated in Asia. Despite its French connection, the Poodle has German heritage as well. Originally bred as a water dog, it gained recognition for its prowess in duck hunting and retrieving. The head can be either rounded, reflecting the Spaniel's influence, or more refined and pointed, akin to the Poodle. Eng-A-Poos flourish in family settings and usually get along well with other dogs. To promote positive interactions with other pets and children, early socialization is essential. However, very young children who are loud and do not treat the Eng-A-Poo gently may be too much for this sensitive breed to handle.
